[Justice is confused and sad and hurt and he doesn't know how to deal with it. Of course, Riona now has to put up with this.

He forgets (again) to knock before just barging into her room, holding a purring Loyalty and looking utterly miserable, especially by his standards. He could almost be considered expressive.]

Riona, I require your expertise on mortal matters.

[Thank the Maker Justice has yet to barge in which Riona and Alistair are, ahem, enjoying some alone time. Once again, he lucks out, catching Riona alone as she's putting away a few clothes she bought in the last world.

Riona startles a bit, but quickly settles when she realizes it's Justice. But that quickly turns into concern at his state. Oh, Maker, what's happened?]

Uh - of course. What's going on?

[That seems like the sort of thing that Riona and Alistair would be far more upset by than Justice. But none of that seems to be on Justice's mind as he scratches behind Loyalty's ears, a gesture more about soothing himself than the cat, who seems happy to lap up the attention regardless.]

Leilani chose to end our relationship. She did not wish to, but she insisted that it be over. I do not understand why she ended it if she did not want it to end. Please give me your insight.

[Her first guess had been something to do with Leilani, but even Riona couldn't have anticipated just what it was. Her eyes widen at the news, mind immediately sorting through her memories. But - had she missed something? Things seemed to have been going fine, so what happened?]

Maker's breath, I'm sorry. I... all right, take me from the beginning. What did she say? surely she gave a reason?

She did, but I did not understand it. She said that she wished that I have the chance to find someone I love.

I do not know why exactly this means that we cannot be in a relationship. It was not her wish to end it, but she did anyway. I do not understand. [The lack of understanding seems to be really getting to him, if the way he pets Loyalty is any indication.]

Come here, Justice. [Riona scoots over on the bed to make room for Justice to sit.] If she was that unwilling, then she did it because she felt it was best for you both. Though I'm going to admit, I'm a little confused as well by her reasoning. It's... very presumptuous on her part.

[Justice sits without hesitation. He knows that physical proximity with his friends always makes him feel better.]

What do you mean? That she presumed I was unable to fall in love with her in particular?

Yes, exactly. I mean - she's never discussed the possibility with you, has she?

We talked about love conceptually before, but we both agreed that our arrangement was not to be exclusive. We never discussed falling in love with each other.

That's the thing about love. It's not something you can discuss or plan ahead for. [His additional information makes this all the more curious.] So, you agreed you didn't have to be exclusive with each other. Which means you would both be free to pursue other people. Then, why end things? Why did she feel like you weren't free to find love with someone else if you weren't monogamous? [She pauses, and adds:] These are rhetorical. I know you don't have the answers. I'm mostly just asking out loud because I'm very confused myself. What would prompt her to do this? And so unwillingly-
